LOVE HAVERHILL? HELP US TO KEEP THE ARTS CENTRE THRIVING!
Haverhill Arts Centre has been a thriving hub of the community since it was gifted to the people of Haverhill in 1883 by Daniel Gurteen (III). The building was built to celebrate the 50th (Golden) wedding anniversary of Daniel and his wife Caroline with a purpose of being a building for the people of Haverhill.
The Town Hall was gifted to the people of Haverhill with the intention to:
- Serve the social well-being of the town and the neighbourhood
- Promote the intellectual well-being of the town
- Foster a healthy public spirit
We think it is fabulous that these intentions spoken by a Victorian benefactor of our town so long ago still perfectly describe what the building does today! These days Haverhill Community Trust facilitates the old town hall’s use as the arts centre – the beating cultural heart of our town.
Maintaining a 135-year old building, which is used by thousands of people a year, is no small task, but with the kind generosity of supporters like you (and lots of hard work from us) we want the arts centre to be a community resource for many years to come.
