Meet the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk: Celena Cherry
Making her Haverhill Art Centre Christmas pantomime debut, Celena Cherry will play the role of Fairy Honey in Jack and the Beanstalk. Celena is well known for being a member of the Honeyz. The group rose to fame in the late 1990s, enjoying five UK top 10 hits between 1998 and 2000, including: ‘Finally Found’, ‘End of the Line’, ‘Love of a Lifetime’, ‘Never Let You Down’ and ‘Won’t Take it Lying Down’. Their debut album, Wonder No.8, was certified Gold by the BPI.
Ahead of the show we caught up with Celena and asked her some quickfire Christmas-themed questions.
Favourite Christmas song?
Ooh that’s a tuff one! But I’m gonna say Christmas Song by Nat king Cole. So deffo one of my favs. I even sing it on my Christmas album as I just love it. The perfect song to sit in front of the tree, drink hot chocolate and wait for Santa.
Do you open any presents before Christmas day?
No never, I love to wait for Christmas Day and I’m always the one who wants to watch everyone open theirs before I open mine.
Tell us your worst Christmas cracker joke.
I love bad Christmas cracker jokes ! They’re best. But you can’t ask me to tell you one as I never remember them!
Favourite Christmas food?
Would be the Brussels sprouts and the stuffing and a nice gravy. I’m not a fan of mince pies, I take the mince out and just eat the pastry. I also love mulled wine.
Favourite Christmas film?
Oooh I love to watch Love Actually at Christmas, it’s such a lovely film to watch. Or second best Home Alone.
Worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?
I don’t remember having a Christmas present I haven’t liked. Christmas is a beautiful time and it’s not about gifts for me so I appreciate everything I receive.
Do you have a weird Christmas tradition?
No, my family are just very normal and do Christmas the normal way. Have Christmas breakfast, then dinner later on and all veg out in front the TV. If we have the energy we might do karaoke.
If you have pets, do they get dressed up?
Haha we all usually wear matching pj’s night before. Forgot about that! And last year my aunty Lindy made my cat’s collars in the same material as our PJs. It was so cute!
Favourite pantomime?
Jack and the beanstalk! I’ve done Snow White before and loved that one. Always wanted to play a wicked queen.
Stay in or go away for Christmas?
I’ve always stayed in. I think I’d like to compare one Christmas and spend it away. Will do it one day!
Best thing about this year’s pantomime?
The best thing is that there is a lovely bunch of people in it and we are gonna have so much fun. And one of my all time fav songs is being sang in it – and I’m not talking about one of my own songs!
